Mystery rubber seal 12077 for gimbal housing anode

Hi, I took possession of a 22 year old boat last summer, and I'm currently replacing the anodes on the Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive. When I pulled the gimbal housing anode (the one that bolts to the trim manifold) I didn't see anything other than the diamond shaped gasket (Mercury part number 995061) stuck to the old anode.

Looking at the Mercury repair diagram, however, there appears to be a "seal" with Mercury part number 12077. As far as I can tell, this seal wasn't there when I pulled the old anode.

I purchased a new anode, a new gasket (P/N 995061), and this mystery seal 12077, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how it's supposed to fit in there. It almost looks like it's supposed to fit over a stud or bolt, but there is no such stud/bolt between the anode and the trim manifold.

Any have a picture I could look at? The repair manual's diagram isn't helpful at all. It basically shows the seal in an "exploded" view, but it's not obvious where/how this seal is supposed to be inserted.

Never installed one but from what I can find, they are used on alpha and early bravo drives which do not have the mercathode installed. If the mercathode is not installed, this seal plug is inserted to seal the drive.

Awesome, thank you!! After seeing your diagram, I went out there and took a MUCH closer look at the manifold, and there actually was an old seal wedged up in there. I yanked that sucker out with a pick, and slid the new one in. I'm pretty sure the old seal was 22 years old.
