That's the shift interrupter. It momentairly kills spark to one bank when you shift from forward or reverse into neutral so it'll come out of gear easily. If your motor idles low enough you won't need it anyway.

Re: mystery switch

When you say it idles high, is it in the water? Or on the hose? Is the motor warmed up and out of Quick Start?

If the idle is set too high, the reason it comes down when you push the switch is because you're killing 3 cylinders.

Re: mystery switch

if that switch does that then i cant figure it out all of this is on the hose at running temp, but it still idles at about 1800 to 2000 rpm and i done cleaned the carbs but havent put kits in them yet because they are $25 a piece and i need 6 so thats $150 and just dont have the money right now and this motor is driving me crazy because i cant figure it out
