Re: Mystery to be solved - reward to whoever gets it!

Thanks Jason,
I'll check that too. (see pic)
I couldn't find the Aviation Permatex so I am going to try the Permatex Ultra Copper this time. Another member here said he just put his back together using it and it worked great for him. I think it should do the trick. Going out to put it back together this evening when this heat stops. (I got delayed a couple of days) I will let everybody know how it turns out.

I will also be glad to make a donation to a childrens hospital (I thought St. Judes would be a good one) in the name of Iboats.

Thanks for all the help and advice that led me to the (hopefully) final answer.

Kirk

Just a thought, does one of the hoses run higher than the other? May fill the higher one when you pinch off the other, after it is full then it may set a siphon and continue to flow on that side?

Good solid even flow from both sides when run in a tank and water is over the pump housing area.
The problem has been found ...now I hope the fix will be good.
Thanks for your response no704.

KWG,
This is a very interesting thread and I hope you've found the problem, it is a quick fix! So how bad does (or did, knock on wood) your starboard exhaust steam? I have the same temperature differential and symptoms you mentioned for the past several years. I have changed my impeller a couple of times during that time, but it's possible I didn't seal the gaskets well. My starboard side only steams after a hard run, but after idling a while, it goes away. The cooling hose going to the starboard is much hotter, so I was thinking it had to be something with the manifold, but I learn something new here every day! Good luck and keep us posted!

P.S. I'm still interested in the riser gaskets, I have the ones with all the holes per the service bulletin,

Re: Mystery to be solved - reward to whoever gets it!

Not sure why but my posts were removed. As I stated I have the exact same problem with a 2001 merc 5.0 alpha 1(same package as KWG). Starboard riser is way hotter 160 degrees than port at 110. Im pretty sure my problem is very closely related to KWG's as Ive recently changed many of the same parts as him. I have searched many posts to find these same symptoms and some possible corective actions and I know the experienced dont post up for everyones problems so hopefully KWG posts back and Ill find out whether he fixed it with the resealing of the impellar pump. There is no need for me to do the same full set of troubleshooting he has, up to and including removing a head(s) to no avail if it didnt work for him. Can anyone tell me what psi I might see on the manifolds and risers while running? If this is a pump problem then clearly you would see this as a drop in psi to the man/riser set? Wouldnt this be an easy test prior to pulling apart a bunch of pieces?

You need to start a new post of your own Bob, not hijack someone elses thread and start your questions 128 replies later. Few will see your post.
It doesn't matter if you have the same problem, you may have completely different results or causes.
