Mystery ???upper cyl. crankshaft seal 18 hp

'65 ev. 18 hp fastwin 18502 have manuals have top -plate coils etc. off, can see up. cyl. crankshaft seal but over that is a chamfered metal shoulder, is that the cam? How do you get it out ? Can you get the seal out w/o splitting the crankcase ? thanks for any help.

Well, it ain't the cam 'cause it doesn't have one, it's a 2 stroke. I'd bet you gotta split the case but I wouldn't do diddly until I had a manual but that's just me. ;) <br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

If I read your post correctly , I think you said that you do have the manual....hmmm. Do the points ride on the "chamfered metal shoulder" when the top plate coils/etc is installed?? Is the "chamfered metal shoulder" driven by the flywheel key?? If both qquestions above answer true , I'll bet it's the cam and usually lifts straight up off the shaft.
