Mystery Vent Hose

Picked up a new boat and am going through it. I found one of the vent hoses for venting out the engine compartment was broken. When I went to look at it, it actually doesn't appear to be attached to anything...it's just flapping in the compartment. There is another vent hose right above it that runs and connects to a white canister that I'm assuming is the air pump. So not sure where this second hose is supposed to connect to.

Thanks!!

one hose connected to blower, one low in builge is normal. its connected to the vent above. it is used to evacuate the heavier than air fuel fumes from low in the bilge.

Thanks for the reply. So that hose just kind of free floats there? It has a slight tear in it...so maybe I will just tape it then if it doesn't have any actually pressure going through it

It looks like the hose is missing from the bottom of the blower. It should extend as low as practical into the bottom of the bilge without the possibility of sucking up water. The other hose is the air intake and should be tied up just below the level of the air breather (flame arrester) on the engine.

Thanks for the response. So the upper one runs and is connected to the top of of a white canister that says Atwood Turbo 400. I've attached a pic of it. In regard to the one on the bottom, should I be looking for an unhooked connector somewhere, or does it just kind of hang there and I should be looking for some sort of tie down that it popped off of? This is something I want to get right as not blowing up is high on my list of priorities. :)

The white Atwood canister is the blower. It would have had a short length of hose zip tied to the bottom (same attachment as the hose at the top of the blower). From the picture I think it would be OK just hanging so that the end was 6" or so from the bottom of the boat. Sometimes the loose end is fastened with a screw through the inside of the hose or a zip tie with a screw hole. Mine is just zip tied to a battery cable.

Awesome! Thanks so much for all your help!!! So the blower only has the one hose in and another out, then the second hose just hangs in th engine bay and provides a natural vent to the outside, without a pump on it. Sound about right?

Make sure the blower works. Turn it on and then put your hand over the outside vent on the side of the boat and make sure you feel air coming out.

The blower sucks air/fumes from the lower part of the bilge to the outside vent.
The other hose should be attached to a vent probably on the opposite side to bring fresh air in. When underway it also helps to move the air through the bilge.

I'm assuming you have an inboard/outboard. Always run the blower for a minute before starting and while idling.
Also, take a boating course.

Thanks Marc. Blower works fine and is blowing out air. It was the dangling hose not connected to anything that concerned me. Not used to seeing a hose just hanging around, but I'm assuming it's the fresh air in as it does go up to an outlet on the top of the boat. I actually just got my boater safety certification, so I'm good there!!
