First thing you need to do is get a multimeter and a repair manual, and then start going about it from there. I understand your frustrations, I am new to playing with these things as well , and those two items have helped dramatically

Thanks for the advice, I have a ohm meter and I am waiting on the repair manual to be delivered. I know I will have to eventually remove the flywheel which makes me kinda nervous since doing it wrong can damage it and I don't want to turn a already expensive problem into a crippling one, so my question is what do I need to remove the flywheel?, can I just use a harmonic balancer puller or do I need a special one from OMC.

Theres normally a flywheel puller, not sure if its similar to a damper puller

Leave the flywheel.

you need to post more info than just no spark.

what is the history, did it ever run, is it new to you
what have you done so far.

have you checked the kill switch lanyard.
disconnect the big red plug, jump the starter and see if spark returns.

you could easily figger out how to troubleshoot just by reading mssgs here.

Re: N fire at any plugs on 1990 johnson 200gt v6

The boat was running fine when I bought it, I took it out and it run fine, got up on plane and ran at around 60, I shut it off and fished a little while cranked it again and it run like a champ, but the 3rd time I started it it cranked right up and when I gave it some throttle it just died and wouldn't start back. I took it home and checked everything and found that I had no fire at any plug. Frustrated, I let it sit for 2 days and decided to check it again and bam!, I had fire again I took it out and it ran lke a champ, it didn't give me one problem. Trailered it took it home and the next day I took it out and it would't start and when I got home I found that it again had no fire at any plug and its been this ways since. I have not tryed to jump the starter with the plug undone, but I have looked into the kill switch and it seems fine.

Another ?, I was told that my problem could be in a safety wire that is located in my shifter, I have looked and found nothing that resembles that, I have 3 wires in it that seem to work the trim, one tilts up, one tilts down and a ground wire. Am I mistaken or is there something I am not seeing.

Do as 'ol jonesg says....disconnect the big red plug, use a remote starter switch or just a simple jumper wire and jump the starter solenoid. As the engine turns, check for spark. If spark returns, the problem is in your kill wire circuit (black/yellow) in the harness and up at the key.

If spark does not return, look here.

Well, I unpluged the red plug and tried it and still no fire. I also check the ohm reading on both of my sensor coils and got no reading on either, I just don't believe both of them could go out at the samr time or cause the brief fire-no fire situation it went through, but I am not a boat guy so maybe I am wrong. I am at my wits end with this thing I don't know what avenue to look at next.

Well Iam officially tired of trying to figure it out so first thing in the morning I am taking it to the dealer, it might cost me a few hundred, but atleast my boat will be back in commision. I figure worst case scenario is either my stator is bad, 300 bucks plus labor, or my power pack is bad, 350 bucks plus labor, this is gonna hurt, maybe its just a short or something, I can only hope.

thanks man, we unplugged the 2 plugs coming from the stator, I think they were charging coils or something, anyway we did that and couldn't get a reading from either but we couldn't find a socket that fit the flywheel nut so we couldn't get in there and basically the book kinda of confused us a little and we were not confident enough to go any further.

Re: N fire at any plugs on 1990 johnson 200gt v6

Well, my baby has been in the shop for 2 days now and I have yet to hear anything from them. I may sound stupid for saying this, but I am having a hard time knowing that it is no longer parked in the protection on my carport but rather sitting outside, unprotected in the weather and we have been getting hammered with rain ever since I dropped it off. I guess I can take heart in knowing that it is atleast inside a lock fence with barbed wired on top. Another thing I wanted to throw out there is I asked the mechanic how much it ws gonna cost me to have them put on a new power pack if that is the problem and he said about 125 bucks, I have no idea about these things and I was wondering is that reasonable or am I getting the shaft. Thanks, sorry about the rant, I just love my stratos!!

Huh....

The power pack alone is $250, maybe cheaper as an aftermarket CDI...
I guess he just quoted the labor. But seriously, that is a simple job. Easily done in your driveway.

yeah, that is just the labor cost. I know the part is expensive I just didn't know if the labor cost was normal.
