NADA Guide Question

I'm looking at buying a used boat and the guy's printout on his NADA blue book guide has the option of "Outboard Hydraulic Steering" and "Outboard Power Trim/Tilt" and "Fire Ext.". If I were buying an 18' bow-rider with a 4.7L I/O. Would these even be valid additional options? It would seem an "Outboard anything" would be for strictly outboard engines and a fire extinguisher would be for larger sized fire ex. for bigger boats. What's the opinion on that? Thanks.

Jeff

Re: NADA Guide Question

NADA uses a depreciation formula that has nothing to do with brand, seasonal or regional market realities.

Re: NADA Guide Question

That's that strangest reply I've ever seen. I don't care what the depreciation formula is, I know what the boat is actually worth, I'm just asking about certain generic options in the NADA guide as that is what my lender needs for loan valuation. I'm not sure you even read the post.

Re: NADA Guide Question

Right, Fizban.

Actually I read it several times without correctly understanding the question. I still don't.

I also don't understand why you think it is a Non-Boating Technical Topic.

At least I tried to answer. :)

Re: NADA Guide Question

NADA just lists options for all boats, you would only check them if they applied to the boat in question. Do they apply? I would guess if it has the option then it would apply.

Re: NADA Guide Question

The most overlooked word is "guide". NADA is just a guide and not too reliable for boats. It normally lists all the Additions or Subtractions from value based on the product.

Cost of boat or car is based on demand. Just because the "guide" has your boat listed at $100 dollars that is just a guide for lending institutions.

Nada is far from a bible on boat values.

Bob

Re: NADA Guide Question

MrFizban, You came to this forum with questions, seeking answers. For you to be rude to someome(JB) who is trying to help you, I find to be VERY innappropriate. I'm glad that you found the answer that you were looking for, or should I say that you already had in your head to be the "correct" answer. Now, if you would like the truth...please read on.....
The NADA guide mainly takes depreciation into account from the original price. It is an AUTOMOTIVE guide company TRYING to gain market share in the Marine market. For your information, mostI/O's (which stand for inboard/ OUTBOARD) are steered by a cable, if you happen to be selling a boat that has an inboard/ OUTBOARD that is hydraulicly steered, you might think to "check" that box as an option. As a further example, if you have a cabin cruiser that has a hot/cold transom or swim platform shower....that "option" on a NADA guide is only listed for a "Ski boat". If you have a cabin cruiser with that option (you paid extra for it when you ordered the boat) you would most likely check that option....even though this is not a "ski-boat".
JB, like myself, was only trying to point out to you, that the NADA guide is far from being "The Bible" for used boat values.
I would like to welcome you to Iboats, there is a wealth of real life experience and advice on here.
Some of what you get may not be what you want to hear, but I can assure you that everyone wants to help, and since no-one gets paid for it, they are only trying to serve you. Please keep that in mind, no-one like to be "blasted on".
