NADA? What to offer?

99 Sea-Pro 170 dc w/ 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. 130 hours, very nice, bimini, but no extra electronics. Seller is asking $8500. According to NADA that looks high by about $1g and compared to similar Sea-Pro higher yet... i think?

Offer is what?

I'm not looking to steal the boat but I don't want to over-pay either. How do I find the right price in today's market?

Re: NADA? What to offer?

Its a buyers market, not a sellers. If NADA says $8500 and they want $9500, I suggest you offer below NADA pricing.

Before you do that though, search for a bunch of Sea-Pros in similar age and motor size, etc on the boat sites and see what the average asking price.

Then, you'll have an idea of what the asking price truly is compared to similar boats. (If he wants $9500 but everyone else has them in similar age and condition for $6000-$7000 around the country) he may be out to lunch or it may be a great deal.

I don't personally know that boat, but for the time of year, the volume of boats in the market, the current economic conditions, you're in the drivers seat on this one.

Worst case, you offer too low, he's insulted and you move on to the next boat. Or, best case, he'll accept but most reasonable people know that they're not going to get asking, and will be low balled in a buyers market

Good luck

in this economy and marketplace, NADA is of no value in pricing a boat. never has been much good, but now worse. plus, you are talking about a 10 year old boat. which gets down to whether it was properly maintained.

NADA also states that the prices are for a boat in average condition. Better condition will command more money.
Kelly will give slightly higher prices.
You can also check the Buc Book.

BUC has the boat only at 7700-8800 for a 2002 (this is a 1999) add the motor and trailer and I'm guessing it's priced right (?) at 8500?

Like TD said, it's gonna come down to how well it was maintained. That will be key in determining if its priced too high or not.
