I bought my boat used and there was no name on it but it looks like the previous owner removed something off the transom but I can't make out what it said (starts with s and ends in y)so I would like to do a ceremony and name it but not sure of a name yet Wife wants me to name it AN AFFAIR so she can tell her friends I'm an s.o.b. for having an affair. since I spend more time getting the boat ready than I do her::eek::redface:( I tell her she's jeallous because the boat is younger than her) 89 Mach-1 Magnum

Re: Naming My Boat

When I bought my boat I came up with about 100 names. Ended up naming it after my kids, Justin, Zachary and Ryan. Just Zacking aRound

Re: Naming My Boat

Naming a boat is personal. I tend to throw out thousands of names until one finally fits the boat. My 'Ray was just named 'The Wet Bar'.

A guy I know just changed his boat name to 'Nice Try', after being pirated in Mexico and getting it back.

Best thing you can do is name it "AFTER YOU", so when wifey or anybody asks what you named it, you can say, I named it....... Problem solved.

If it's got downriggers, be sure to call it "Balls Deep". It's very fitting yet fun.

a buddy of mine had a boat named "after you" got its name because it was so slow, it was an old wooden boat pretty good size had a cabin, bunks, and at 1 time a kitchen. boat was on its last legs when he got it. i believe he got it after the P.O. sunk it. had no motor so he put a 18hp on it and it didnt matter how much a head start he got. he always arived after you

Re: Naming My Boat

Whatever you name the boat, be careful not to disrepect her. I named our first boat "Ugly 1" since it was a used, baby-poop yellow, with ratty carpet and debris in it. Got her dirt cheap. That disrespect spelled trouble from the get go. Steering was sloppy, had to replace throttle cable, transom was rotten, motor kept breaking down always needed new parts, and finally since she was underpowered I couldn't make a left turn sharp enough at speed I was going and hit a tree on the bank, cracking the hull across the bow. I had alreay fixed other cracks before. But this was the last straw. She went to the boneyard and used the motor on a 14' aluminum flat bottom, but motor became not worth fixing anymore. It's gone now and replaced with another used motor. The new "used" rig is great and fully respected, and not trouble since.

Ok, I'll scratch "big pile of crap" off my name list.....

Re: Naming My Boat

Now I don't really consider myself supersticious but I remember reading somewhere that it was bad luck to re-name a boat? :(

Probably doesn't matter but I made certain that the boat I purchased didn't have a name. If it did I would have probably have kept it. I have yet to name it but when I do I will make certiain that the boat approves! :D

Here is an interesting website which might help!!

Re: Naming My Boat

it is bad luck to change the name on a boat but if the previous owner took it off maybe it won't count.
I'm stuck with the previous owner's naming mine VA 3456 BE and what's worse, he put it on both sides of the bow. I mean, what kind of name is that for a boat?

Re: Naming My Boat

I'm gonna name my boat "Eureka", since it took so long to find it.

Google/Wikipedia for the boating reference: Archimedes supposedly exclaimed "Eureka" (I found it!!!) as he realized his principle of buoyancy - THE law we all live by.

Re: Naming My Boat

Gawd,

Whatever you do, DON'T name your boat "Leaky"

Poseidon does NOT appreciate irony.

For the long, boring, sad tale of Leaky, see:

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=275872

And don't name your motor "Rusty" either.

Jim. (Apparently my name was hijacked for a bit. Ignore the previous post)

Re: Naming My Boat

There is a politician who named his boat "The unsinkable 2"
He would not say what happened to the first one.

My boat is called "Pokey 1"
The first owner named it that. I don't know why, its really fast.
