Re: NASCAR Richmond

Sure would have been nice if they had frozen the field at the moment of caution, and declared the race
over.

I was thinking the same, roscoe. But I'm not sure if that is the right thing either. I do feel that Bowyer pretty much got off with a rap on the knuckles, I think he should be sitting a few races and paying a huge fine.

Re: NASCAR Richmond

Now Penske and Front Row might have made a deal to get Logano in .... Stay tuned ... 24 might get in after all ...

No, if Gordon beat him in points then the #24 would be in and Logano would be the second wild card. It would knock out Newman. Big mess. Gordon had no wins, so had to be top 10.

The deal of which QC speaks of from a revised Jayski color scheme that DonS would have been happier with:

Penske deal with Front Row at Richmond to help Logano? UPDATES: Penske Racing may have cut a deal with Front Row Motorsports in the closing laps at Richmond for track position to help get #22-Joey Logano in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. In radio communications reviewed Wednesday by The Associated Press for Front Row driver #38-David Gilliland, his spotter informs the team of a request to let Logano pass him in the final laps of Saturday night's race. Logano was trying to claim a spot in the 12-driver Chase field. Both Penske and Front Row are Ford teams and thus considered partners. A voice on the radio, believed to be crew chief Frank Kerr, asks who the request is coming from. The spotter replies: "We've got the big dog and all his cronies." Kerr then says: "Travis knows what I've been asking for," an apparent reference to Penske Racing competition director Travis Geisler. Logano passed Gilliland on a restart and finished 22nd, one spot ahead of Gilliland and good enough for a berth in the Chase field. "Good job, good job, man," the spotter says after the race. "Hopefully we'll get something out of that." Statistics analyzed by AP also show Gilliland's lap times dropped off by almost 1 second from the times he was running prior to the radio communication.(Associated Press)(9-11-2013)
UPDATE: "NASCAR is aware of reports about the #22 and #38 radio communications at Richmond International Raceway and is looking into it, but has yet to see anything in full context that requires any action."(NASCAR)(9-11-2013)
UPDATE 2: Thursday morning release from NASCAR: "NASCAR is continuing to gather all the facts from last Saturday nights NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Richmond International Raceway. NASCAR will have no further comment until all the facts have been examined. "(NASCAR)(9-12-2013)

The weirdness is, that if they do anything to fix Gordon, then Logano will still be in as a Wildcard and Newman get's bumped. This is the Ripple Effect they have been talking about.

Re: NASCAR Richmond

I read that earlier too. You see that happening all the time during the season where a driver lets the following guy pass to lead a lap to get that bonus point. Then gives the position back. But, that's with teammates.....

This is already a cluster. I hope NASCAR doesn't reshuffle the Chase contenders "again". It could turn into a real mess down the road. "Some driver didn't get up on the wheel like they should and let drivers pass"............ Penalty! Fines!

Easy fix - Dump the Chase. Let 'em all race until Homestead and stop the points finagling for the top 10 + 2 wild card chasers eliminating the rest of the field.

Personally, I believe the "Chase" is a waste of time and simply a stunt that promotions came up with to try and sell NASCAR to the public in a time when interest was waning. I am old school and have been watching since the late 60's when the guy with the most points won, plain, simple and easy to figure out.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the off season this year, I do believe there will be changes on the horizon.

The Chase is not going anywhere. All this is good for NASCAR. Like they say, "no such thing as bad publicity."
