i got slapped by a stupid question while driving by a construction site yesterday.......

when building a deck, do we need to leave room for natural expansion?....

i live in a normally arid climate....(however the last few summers have been really high humidity)

i saw the expansion joints on a building today abd it made me think.....

(ive had my head up my bilge so long everything makes me think of boats)

scott.....td...?

thanks

cheers

Re: natural expansion on sole..(floor, deck)

i leave a little space, to keep from having hard joints. but wood if sealed properly is not going to absorb moist (we hope). but being a building contractor, it takes wood 7 years to completely die, even after that when exposed it will expand and contract.
