I ran my boat with the smart tabs for the first time on the weekend. All good , got straight on plane great. Only problem is when at wot water shoots up behind motor into well. Is this normal or do I need more adjusting. Only happens when at WOT.

It's likely that you have the motor set too low. The av plate above the prop is doing the squuirting and should be out of the water. ;)

Well, don't you think that could be the tabs squirting up some water too, if they're set at too high a pressure and don't retract sufficiently at high speed?

I thought perhaps the motor was too low. will raise it this weekend and try again. Thanks

Listen to Shortly -- Mine do the same thing if I trim in too far. It immediately stops when trimmed out a little.

Andrew;

Pior to installing the Smart Tabs (like most people) you probably dropped the motor as far down as possible (trim under) to get on plane and keep the boat from porpoising. This trim angle is not efficient from a performance viewpoint (gas as well) and will lift the stern too much when combined with the Smart Tabs. The Tabs allow you to trim the motor up to a vertical position which provides thrust forward not up and forward. This may well change the water flow in the back and eliminate the problem.

If the boat is not running a bit faster than it did before (WOT) then you need to reduce the lift pressure. This too will change the water flow and may eliminate the spray.

Lifted the motor two holes and ran it on the weekend. Much better, still need some adjustment with the tabs I think as the bow seems very flat and doesn't seem to be getting right up on the third hull.

Sounds like the pressure adjsutment is a bit too high. Check the manual and reduce move the actuator closer to the plate by sliding the ball stud down the slot in the trim plate bracket. Do not change the top bracket (transome bracket) as this will adjsut the angle and that is not necessary.

Does the boat run faster than it did without the tabs?

Thanks john, I will give that a try. The boat appears a little slower than previous.

Re: Nautijohn. Smart tabs, first run

I did my first run with them on Sunday, very impressed, wife noticed right off the bat that the our wake was different, yes I did have the motor trimmed differently then normal and no there wasnt water shooting into the well.

Personally I am very impressed with the product, the instructions, labeling and packaging was second to NO product I have installed on my boat, they were even in english :D

The only draw back if you could find one is that I had a bit slower response on backing up, however the bow was almost more manueverable when docking, ie from a stand still making way but not under way (Sorry wanted to work that into a conversation at some point) it was very easy to swing the bow to the dock.

I am sure with a little "tweaking" you'll them in no time.

I'm sure I will. I do love the stability with no moe listing problem just need some fine tuning in adjustments.
