Nautolex chemical resistance

Just for the record, Nautolex won't permit putty made from Epoxy and cabosil to stick well enough to mar it.. you can just pick the hardened stuff off.

On the other hand, acetone will remove any printed pattern on the nautolex, any colors that aren't in the vinyl itself. It turns "shark" into off white.

Hope this saves someone else a bit of grief.

Yeah, but fortunately it's near the motor well, so the doghouse will partly cover it. I've got more nautolex, but I'd have to put a seam there, which I'm not crazy about.

Basically I spilled fresh resin onto the nautolex, and tried to clean it with acetone on a rag (should have used vinegar). Then I left a half cup of putty in the boat and it foamed and dripped as it hardened.

I like the nautolex so far, but I'm thinking if I ever redo the deck I'll just use anti-skid paint.

Methinks you are a little over reactionary, eg. There are not many surfaces that acetone will not attack. You ought to see what it would do to any anti-skid paint plus if you spilled epoxy on it, it would lift the paint right off.

I'd say it was fortunate that you did use Nautolex.

Erik, everybody is going to scuff up all your good work, anyway, when out boating.

NO! They must all wear soft shoes and wipe their feet before coming on board :p

We'll see how the nautolex wears. I'll post some pics soon once I get the carpet on the side walls and the doghouse in.

Don't turn your back for an instant.......... or it will happen.
I'm still PO'd at SIL for bleeding all over a just-cleaned boat.
He is young, and figured he could help launch the boat (he owned it for the one ride, that he stopped suddenly, with stuck-open flappers. and tried to to crank it until he blew the terminal off the battery, what caused a complete re-wiring)
Thought he could stand on the trailer, and push a 21' boat off the trailer, while bare-footed, slipped, got a cut tendon in his toe, then jumps on the boat, and bleeds all over it. GRRR
Now, he understands-he gets in, I back down, and he starts engine and idles off the trailer. Don't ask about the first time, after being told not to do it- He starts engine while still in parking lot, and can't understand why I am taking the boat back home, ruining everybody's fun. (Replace a $50 impeller kit).
It's a boat, and it will get dirty. lol.
