Re: NE Weekend Blizzard

Right on Gary, just in time! I love this tractor, I looked in the whole eastern half of the US for a 4x4 diesel tractor with hydrostatic trans and luck would have that I found this one at an estate sale auction 3 miles from my house! Even drove it home, instead of using my trailer.

You just didn't check quite far enough west. I sold my NH TC40D, 4x4, diesel, hydrostat with a heated cab last spring. Checked out your pix. I see a certain color scheme going on.... Good to see the boat under shelter......:)

I got mine at the auction for $11K, with only 99 hours on it. They used it to mow a flat field, nothing else. When I cleaned it up it looked brand new!

Yeah, the color scheme wasn't planned, but it works out LOL.

Well I'm just a little dissapointed that we did not have a Nor'Easter. We had winds to 50mph and only a couple of hours of white-out conditions. The ocean did roar and we had 10" of snow.

To qualify a Nor'Easter you need 70mph winds and three hours of white-out conditions.

I beg to differ, I have never heard that "requirement"

From here,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nor'easter

A nor'easter (also northeaster; see below) is a type of macro-scale storm along the East Coast of the United States and Atlantic Canada, so named because the winds come from the northeast, especially in the coastal areas of the Northeastern United States and Atlantic Canada. More specifically, it describes a low pressure area whose center of rotation is just off the East Coast and whose leading winds in the left forward quadrant rotate onto land from the northeast. The precipitation pattern is similar to other extratropical storms. Nor'easters also can cause coastal flooding, coastal erosion, hurricane force winds, and heavy snow. Nor'easters can occur at any time of the year but are mostly known for their presence in the winter season.[1] Nor'easters can be devastating and damaging, especially in the winter months, when most damage and deaths are cold related, as nor'easters are known for bringing extremely cold air down from the Arctic air mass. Nor'easters thrive on the converging air masses; that is, the polar cold air mass and the warmer ocean water of the Gulf Stream.[1]

Sure is: :D It even has a gun rack on the left side lol.

Actually my hunting gear is the warmest and driest stuff I own. I guess I really should have taken the headlight off my cap though :D .
Besides my neighbors already think I'm crazy, can't disappoint them by looking normal for long island, that just wouldn't be any fun hehehe

That tractor is dreamy! The farm I grew up on had a very old Case. Nothing even close to the luxury of that one, though. If you buy a bucket, I'd recommend one with down force as well. The # of times we wished that old Case had down force.. Who knows, maybe they all have it nowadays.

I think that's common now, I can pick the front of my tractor up with my FEL.

I agree. I had a 6' snowblower on mine that would raise the frontend off the ground.

You aren't differing with me, your differing with the meteoroligist, I'm only quoting what he had said on the news this morning. Until he spoke I thought we had a Nor'Easter. And what does wikipedia mean by marcro- scale(large) 30-40 mph winds? Here on Cape Ann 90% of all our bad weather summer & winter are out of the northeast with winds occuring at 20mph or greater. And meteoroligist here do not consider a heat-wave until we have had three consecutive days over 90 degrees.

Wishing you and your family peace, love, and joy at Christmas and always.

Merry Christmas

Here's a shot of my dock from Sunday. My boat's slipped not far from where Skago lives, so it's roughly the same 2' he had.
Fortunately my canvas held the snow with no problem.

Thanks Lowkee, I bought it this summer from a place in Hazleton, PA. It does one heck of a job, I actually cleared about 50 acres or better of very neglected pasture land ( it had been 25 years since last I tended to it) in 1 1/2 -2 days first time out with her.
This spring I plan on getting a bucket and backhoe I have a lot of work that needs to get done on the land.
I think skargo is right these days they all give downward pressure like a regular front end loader so you can back blade etc..

That's what amazes me, how some of you guys can "store" your boats right in your slip in water. Unless maybe you guys have bubblers everywhere to keep ice from forming. Looks like it never freezes tho. A luxury I'm sure you guys appreciate...... Nice pic with the boats in the water and a ton of snow surrounding them. The ice around here would probably crush the hulls. I'm just a guy living in the upper midwest who only sees inland lakes....

I'm guessing saltwater? So it'll need to be colder for longer to freeze it. Even so, my thoughts go out to all during the bad weather this winter, keep yourselves and your boats safe. I'll crack a coldy for you on the beach on Christmas Day. Cheers,

It's not saltwater there, it's 99.9% fresh. I'm sure Arks has a bubbler or some similar setup.

Yup- TWO de-icers. The water in this area rarely freezes but in the past 5 years we've had to turn 'em on twice- both times during the same winter ('06 I think). They hang from lines below the hull and circulate water from the bottom. With two, I can keep a 50' radius clear. I'm my dock neighbors best friend! :D
One looks like this:
IceEater.jpg

And the other one like this. They're both 3/4 HP:
KascoDe-Icer.jpg

I haven't set up the de-icers yet this year. If we get any ice it won't be for at least another month or so.
Heck- I just winterized the engines 10 days ago!

Scott- thanks for the offer. I might just take you up on that if I can't make it down.

Here's a shot of why I have covers on my boat.
This boat is identical to mine but he didn't cover up last weekend. That's a LOT of weight!
