Hello,

The connecting rod bearings let go on my 8 hp and now I need a new block, crankshaft and pistons. Does anyone know what other models and years used the same block?

Thanks,

Rob.

Try the top secret files at the begining of this forum and look for salvage yards. You could also try shop.evinrude.com and compare model yrs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I could not find any cross references. I have a few motors laying around 7.5 and 6 hp and was hoping some of the parts would be interchangeable, but I guess not. They all seem to have different part numbers.

I will try and find a used one of the same vintage.

As a unit, the 7.5 and 6hp powerheads will bolt up, but the 8hp block was unique in that it had a larger reed plate. So, if you don't mind giving up a pony or two, find a complete powerhead. If you want all 8 ponies, then only an 8hp will do...

I haven't been that deep in those years 6-8hp & as Chinewalker says the reed valve plate is different on those 8hp, BUT only from 88 to 90. The 6 & 8hp reeds were the same from 84 to 87. If you had a mismatch, there could be the possibility that the intake manifold & reed assembly may interchange off the blown 8 onto a 6hp block.

Thanks for the info. I do have some 6 hp motors laying around, wonder if they would work. I looked at the part numbers for the block, crank and pistons and they were different from the numbers on my 8 hp. I guess the only way to tell is to rip a 6 hp apart and compare.
