Need a bolt to hold the trim tab on a '86 40hp 'rude

Someone took the trimtab off the motor before I got it. I have the trimtab but no bolt. What I gather is there is a long bolt and a shorter bolt and I don't know which to get.

When I look up into the hole the bolt goes in it appears there are no threads. Is this a special made bolt?

Ill pull the bolt outta my 1988 40 and see if I can match it up to something. It'll be in the morning. Ryan

Post a model #. Different bolts for different length mtrs.

Check out shop.evinrude.com and look up your mtr and you'll see what I mean.

The part # for the bolt should be 320040.

$40.80 for one bolt.

I got the required bolt yesterday from a local but it won't fit. Inspecting closer it appears the bolt is to large, won't start the threads and may require a smaller diameter bolt.

Yes I know. That's frigging nuts. Have you tried any of the shops in your area to see if they may have a junk lower unit laying around ??
