We are looking for a coil for an old Johnson. The dealer says it is late 1940's or early 1950's. Model #946827TN28. This was all the info we could find on the motor.
RichRchrd1@aol.com
Thank you.

****,
Welcome to the board!

Your motor is a 1952 or 1953.

I have the same motor, a higher serial number, but the same model.

You can find the coils by calling Dee at Marine Parts outlet in Stuart Florida, at 561-283-3433.
I don't know for sure about Napa, but Napa Stores carry Sierra parts that match up also. Any local Napa store should be also able to get them for you.

Good luck and let me know how she runs when you get it all back together.

****, Your TN-28 is a 1952-1953 5 HP. I do not know about the coil that is in your motor, but a lot of the old OMC coils are available from your local Evinrude/Johnson dealer or NAPA auto parts.

Copies of the original repair, owners, and parts manuals are available from the Ken Cook Company.

http://www.kencook.com/kccwww/marinepubs/marinepubs.html

Hopefully the dealer that could not give you any other information on the motor was not an Evirude/Johnson dealer. If they were, find a different dealer.

There are parts links available ont he Antique Outboard Motor Club site. There is a section to post questions also. Here is the link

http://www.aomci.org

Thank you for all your help. We have ordered the coil from the local NAPA parts store. Hopefully, this will get the old girl up and running.
