Need a few more MPH

I need to steal a few more MPH out of my 17' Lund fisherman with a 2005 150 yamaha.

Long story short I whipped my buddy's boat up and down the lake last year which caused him to by a new 21' lund with a 225 yamaha... Well all that money caught him up to me, but he still is not faster.

I cruise at 50 mph on my gps in ideal conditions, I has an aluminum prop at a 19 pitch... Any recommendation on pitch and manufacture of a stainless prop.

If I can keep him in the rear view it wont matter how many fish we catch!

We'd have to know a whole lot more about your set up to tell if there's anything left on the table or not. Since you're running an aluminum prop we'll assume there is room for improvement. If I were doing your set up I'd take a close look at a jackplate and the Turbo Ultima 4.

Need to know what rpm's you are turning wide open with current prop.
Switching to a 3 blade stainless 21 pitch should give you the mph's you want

like dhadley said "setup" meaning where is cavitation plate in relation to very bottom of hull? if it can come up without cavition it will result in better performance. i also agree turbo ultima 4's are great props. thats what i run. jack plate is another thing if you want evey little bit you can get. come back with #'s we can get this thing doing 55 easy

your buddies boat should do better than it is but thats on you to tell him

Like the guys have said...where's the cav. plate in relation to the bottom of the "V"? I don't think you'll be wanting to put a jackplate on...I think Lund advises against it....wouldn't want to damage your transom.

I found, on my 1800 Fisherman, that the original dealer installed my 150 Merc. too low. The cav. plate was level with the bottom of the "V". I've been told many dealers up here, in MN , rig them that way. So, I guess I'd start there...make sure you're at least 1" above the bottom. Currently I'm 1" to 1 1/2" above the "V" and find that my cav. plate is skimming the top of the water.

As far as getting more speed...you'll have to supply current numbers for the experts here to help figure out what's left on the table. I'd say right now....you're hauling the mail pretty well @ 50...perhaps you can find a couple more mph. Best I did with my 150..two stroke was 50...with a light load. I'm trying to fine tune my new 175 two stroke....hoping to maybe get 52 out of her...but don't think I'll get there. I think pushing a riveted fishing hull much past mid 50's takes tons of HP's!

Ok Back from the lake, here is what I have for you or anyone with advise...
Lund Fisherman 1700, 150 yamaha 4 stoke
19 m Aluminum prop 3 blade
5800-6000 rpms at top speed fully planed out

As for the cav plate, I would say it is close to level with the bottom or the V, not sure how to exactly measure it.

I now could really use som help thanks to the boulder that went after my prop this weekend

If you want to do it on the cheap just to rub it in; check out the Turning point Hustler in the same pitch.close to stainless performance at aluminum prices and if you have a discussuin with another rock it won't be so costly.
The turning point may allow more height and even more speed.
