Although I am here in Cartersville, I don't know of any good mechanics. But, they don't come much simpler than an old OMC. I think you could probably do it yourself. What needs to be done? We here on iboats can get you through ANYTHING on that old johnny.

the best way to find the good and bad mechs, is to go to the boat ramp, talk it up with guys, who have the same vintage motor, comment on how good the run, yada, yada. ask about who does there work. they will gladly tell you who screwed them, and who did it right.

Dekalb Marine is an excellent place - at least the dealings I have had with them. They have been around forever - I know more than 30 years. Worked on my old Chrysler a few years back - great work and good price.

They are off 285 on the east side on Glenwood road I think.

I'm a new boat owner (used boat) and I had JDA Marine in L'ville (Just off Hwy 29) work on my boat recently. They replaced my fuel sending unit and fixed some wiring to the motor that was preventing me from cranking it. They charged me what they said they would charge and it was ready when they said it would be ready. Their labor rates were $75/hr which I recon is pretty reasonable.

The owner offered some help to me over the phone and when I couldn't get it going I brought it in.

I'll use them again.

Re: Need a good & honest mechanic around Atlanta,GA

Thank you guys, will try to contact them.
For the details, I have a 1969 85hp selectric, gearcase rebuilt last summer, I thrust then guy but he is so busy it took him more than two months to replace shift solenoid and shaft for a bill of $700.00
Now, I lost the reverse and I have a clicking in gearcase when on neutral or reverse. Neutral work, no reverse and doesn't sound very good. I have a feeling the reverse spring popped.
Any help and recommendation would be great.
It's an old evinrude in good shape on a 1961 Larson in great shape but I can't spend another thousand bucks on transmission.
Thanks in advance.
