Need a gut check - possible resto

Hi all. Need a gut check here. Interested in a 78 super sport open bow 19 ft aluminum boat. Problem is that its powered with an Omc stringer drive -

i would buy planning on doing a restoration. obviously I’m guessing based on my experience there is rot to be fixed including the transom. Can anyone tell me how difficult it would be to patch the transom to accept a Mercruiser?

Need a a gut check before wasting my time

If you’re replacing the transom anyway, switching to a Mercruiser (if you have one) is just a matter of careful measuring and then cutting the proper hole.
