i have a 67 so on mine you have to pull the pwh disassemble the shift linkage at that point the LU will come down far enough to let you disconect the shift linkage then nock out the pin on the dirve shaft and remove the impellar bolts and impellar be careful not to loose the impellar key. reverse for reassembly.

it is a good idea to go ahead and do it they need to be changed every couple of years.

but Mine does not "pee" very much most of the water comes out of the exaust.

shift to reverse, lower will come down 1/2 inch, there is a bolt that holds the shift rod together, remove bolt, and lower will come off.

Take the plugs out so that you can turn the flywheel easily. There is a pin in the driveshaft that needs to be aligned with the slot in the exhaust housing so that the driveshaft can drop. Once you have the shift rod connector loose, turn the flywheel slowly until the driveshaft releases.

It'll go flying out.
make sure you dont have the engine 5 feet off the ground when you do this. (like I did)
you don't want your lower slamming to the ground. So catch it.

Look at the attachment that supplied with this entry, it should help some. Unplug the spark plug wires and while securely holding the lower unit and gearcase, turn the propeller to get the drive shaft to turn and line up the slit in the Seal Spring washer(item #6) and the drive shift pin(item #8), so the lower unit can come down. Oh, don't forgot to unscrew the drive shaft connector and screw (Items 58, 59, 60 in the picture). This is also necessary for the lower unit to come down.

After impeller change, then just reverse the order of removal and remember to align the drive shaft pin and Spring seal washer in the upper exhaust housing. Position by slowly turning the propeller to line them back up so the drive shaft can go back up. Remember to make sure the water tube (#56 item) is seated back in the grommet (item #57 on the impeller housing), before you bolt up the lower unit.

You should get a manual for your motor to help you maintain her and do repairs properly. Manuals can be bought here on Iboats or do a search on ebay.

Hope this helps you out!
