Don't know what caused this. Is it something I can fix? Or do I need to take the lower unit to a shop. 1984 115HP

Take another pic showing the end of the propshaft.

And couple more with the prop removed...one from this angle and another looking straight down the propshaft.

also, describe how it happened, or when you first noticed it. and what recent maintenance has been done to the motor.

Yeah, exactly what are you trying to show us? Is the prop rubbing the gearcase?

Looks like he isn't running the inside spacer and the prop wobbled.

Is the nut still on?

Need more info.

Re: Need a little lower unit advice please

Was running about 30mph in 25ft of water and the motor just sped up.
Raised the motor and the prop is about 2 in. out. I can push it back in.
The Prop nut and cotter pin are still in place. Will post more pics this evening.
Is there a shear pin or something that could break and cause this to slide out like this. Replaced the water pump housing several months ago but other than that no lower unit work has been done.

If the propshaft moves with the prop, you have a broken propshaft. Not a difficult fix if you have access to a MONDO heavy duty pair of snap ring pliers. A shop manual is a must, too... Propshafts aren't cheap. I would recommend a reseal in the process, too...

Here are the additional Pics
If it is a broken shaft does someone know where I can get a used one.
Just priced the Shaft along ranges from $279 on ebay to $425 through Evinrude.

Chinewalker you were right. IT is a broken prop shaft. Pulled it out this evening.
Anyone know where I might find a good used one?

Re: Need a little lower unit advice please

Tore my unit apart and I have a crack on the inside.
Found a complete lower unit on ebay for a 85 Johnson 110HP.
Will this work on my 84 Evinrude 115hp. They are both 20" shaft. I do not know the model number of the Johnson.
If it was a Evinrude then I know it would work but do not know about a Johnson.

Yep, the units are completely interchangeable. Only difference is the paint job...
