Need a seal kit 1996 Ocean Runner 225

My gears are shot in the lower unit, I have new gears on the way but I need to know where to find a complete lower unit gearcase seal kit to rebuild my foot.. It is a 1996 Johnson Ocean Runner 225 standard rotation.. I have found a bunch of kits but not sure which one is the one that I need.. Thanks in advance for any help..

Don't rebuild it till you have the housing checked with alignment tool, if case is tweeked it will crap the gears again.

Lower unit oil drained out a couple years ago, I started getting shift problems and decided to drain and check the foot oil.. I got about half a quart of seawater and some spotty oil drops.. I could adjust the cables to get forward gear or reverse, but not both with one adjustment.. Would grind like crazy looking for reverse but slide into forward with ease and visa versa.. I have no idea how long we ran it after the oil had drained out.. How do I check the housing alignment? I build airplanes for the Boeing Corp so I know how to work thing to writhing. 0001" but not sure what I am looking for on an outboard lower unit.. Thanks again..

Call dealer and ask if they have the alignment tool and have it checked and also have them shim the driveshaft with new pinion. Also replace the shift cradle as they are "pot metal" and will wear excessively when ran in contaminated oil. The OEM seal kit is 437753

Gee, isn't it easier(and likely cheaper) to buy a new SEI gearcase for that motor?

Not so far. . $1500+ for a remanned lower unit, I am in the hole $260 as of now..
