Need a set of muffs for a 90 hp, where?

Where can I find a set of muffs for my 1981 Mercury 90 hp. I've been lookin around with no luck. Have a set for a 9.8 but too small. Also with the 90, will I be able to tell if the impellar is working properly running it with the muffs and do I need to plug anything?

I have always used the same universal one I have from Walmart on both my 9.9 Evinrude and my Mariner 75hp outboards. I never had an issue with either motor. Just cover the water inlets with it and turn on the hose. No plugging needed. If the impeller is working correctly you will see a steady stream from the "pee hole" after a few seconds of the engine running. I have never seen water from the hole without the motor running. That should indicate whether the impeller is pushing the water through or not.

If the stream is not steady at idle and has a sporadic spitting action to it I would look into replacing the impeller soon.

But the 90 hp lower unit is alot wider than the 9.8. I even tried the muffs from the 9.8 and no luck. I will look at walmart though.

Every set of muffs I ever used either had a SS shaft with a clip allowing you to position the cups where you wish, or they were on a springy steel u shaped rod which would spread open to accept thicker lower units.

When you get the muffs on expect water to escape from around them and position them to cover all the holes. Once the engine starts the amount of bypassing with be signifigantly reduced, if not stopped altogether.
