Re: Need A VPN ???
OK, you should had been assigned an IP address in the 5.x.x.x range. You will then bring up Hamachi and click on triangle icon , lower right. Click on Create a New Network. Give your 'new' network a name and password. You are now setup to share files and send IM messages thru Hamachi. Example: Network name......NoelPlace Password:....12345

Hamachi uses the normal Windows file sharing rules. To make things simple, goto Windows Explorer (you'll see your yellow file folders down the left side). Click on the C drive, Click on File (top menu), New, Folder. Give this folder a name, say ,Hamachi Shared , click OK to save the new folder.

Right click on that new folder and pick Sharing from the list. Click on Share this folder. When you click on Apply or OK, the folder contents will be shared between other computers on your network (if you have other computers networked) and with other Hamachi users.

To connect to your computer , using Hamachi, from outside you home do this. If you have a laptop, install Hamachi on it. Run Hamachi, on grey Hamachi window, click on triangle icon (lower right) , click on Join existing network. Type in the network name you originally created on your home machine (NoelPlace) and password (12345). You will now be connected to your home machine. Right click on NoelPlace, click Browse. You should now see any and all files that are in your shared folder(s). You can copy /paste files from the laptop TO your home machine, or FROM your home machine to your laptop.

Friends and family members can 'join' your network too if they have the name and password of your network at home (NoelPlace-12345)...you do have to have your main home computer turned on and running for all of this to work!

When others are connected to your network (NoelPlace), you will see their nicknames listed with a greed dot , on the Hamachi window. If you have another users logged into your network, right click on their nickname, click on Send Message. A window will open. Type your message in the bottom half of the window and hit Return. That person will see you message and can reply back.

The above is a simplified version of the steps to get Hamachi up and running. You should have a strong password, not just a simple one like above (12345). Windows XP and XP home have by default, Simple File Sharing turned on. You can toggle off this Simple File Sharing and goto full sharing control. Having full control will allow you to define different users and groups and give each person or group certain file sharing rules. One good rule is NOT to allow everyone the ability to erase files from your shared folder (except you , of course). Setting up full sharing control of Windows is on the Web in many places, but for now, get Hamachi up and flying with Simple File Sharing. BTW, you can share printers too.
