Hello,
I just got this little motor.
Previous owner removed LU , it needs some work.
But, the difficult part for me is that driveshaft stayed in motor.
I am not able to pull it out.
I have original manual that just says, "remove 3 screws and remove gearcase".
Nothing special...
Is there some trick to remove it?
I tried to hold driveshaft with plyers and gave light knock on plyers, but was afraid to go too hard and break it.

Pleas help.

It's froze to the crankshaft. That's because people didn't remove and lubricated occasionally what you do when you change out the water pump. It can be extremely difficult so what I would recommend spend the motor upside down or whatever kind of oil you like down in there and let it sit for a week and then grab it with two pairs of ice grips somewhere where it's not going to rub on a seal and try to pound it out. Oftentimes the splines inside the crankshaft will come with it and then it's ruined.

I've been successful with a few so it's worth a try.

Do you think Kroil will be good?
This thing gets bad things that any other "oil" can not.

If you go Racerone style, there is probably an adapter otherwise drill a hole in the shaft and stick a pin in it after you slide the slide hammer receiver in it.

Or just do my trick. It's 50/50.

Do not clamp on any bearing or seal spot. Use the middle area.

Watch hitting your thumbs, redneck!🤣

I was thinking about drilling before, like the hole and SS pin at the end of driveshaft on older 6 HP OMC motors to push head seal, but then dropped the idea scared to weaken\ruin driveshaft.
Anyway , I will soak it for week or two while coming up with the way to pull.

Clamp on a rubber hose as tight as you possibly can. Use bellows adhesive if you need to. Slide the slide hammer into the rubber hose, butt it to the driveshaft and tighten it with clamps as well.. this will result in a 0% chance of damage to the shaft and a very good chance of working. It’s going to put quite a bit of jolt into the shaft breaking it free. Slide hammers are amazing things

Next question I have: Does it have thermostat?
I can not find it on the diagrams.
Thanks.

They started building that type of 3 and 4 HP in about 1955 and those have never used a thermostat.
