Gentlemen,
I am looking at a 1982 Dixie Super Ski with a 5.7 merc. The boat has been restores and is really nice. However, when I went to look at the boat, there was water in the oil (milky dipstick). I immediately advised the guy that he did not have the boat priced to compensate for a cracked block or head trouble. The guy tells me that he has winterized the boat every year but always has milky oil after the winter. He advises that after changing the oil, no more water issues until the next year. I said, yeah right.
Well, the guy called me today and advised that he had changed the oil, run on the muffs and no issues. He advised that I was welcome to test drive the boat and do a compression check if it would make me feel better.
I like the boat but i am still leary of the situation.
any thoughts? I have never heard of water in the oil without their being an engine problem.

It could also be bad manifolds/risers especially if the oil is milky and the level hasn't gone up much.

You need to run it under load and then check the oil.

Either the guy is not hoest or is clueless...not sure which is worse. What else may be wrong that he isn't telling me about.

Howdy!

I agree with Hault. Run... don't walk away from this one.

Unless the guy is prepared to knock about $4/K off the price for a new mill.

Murphey's Law is especially tough on boat owners.

Good Luck!

Work him down on the price to pay for what could be a cracked block or tell him to take a hike. Unfortunately someone else will probably buy it only to find out that it has major problems.

Have a great day,

Rob.
