I have a 14' tri-hull boat (like a boston whaler) I dont know the manufacturer, but it was built in 1985. I replaced the deck but it has a junk engine. Im trying to decide wether to put a new 25hp yamaha 2-stroke for $3000 (thats with remote steering). Or buy a whole new boat and scrap the old one. I could get a 2001-2002 14ft carolina skiff for almost the same price. I know I would be sacrificing a smoother ride for a bumpier one, I just dont know what to do.

If you like the current boat, keep it. At least you'll know what you have and you'll have a new engine. That is allot of peace of mind.

Also remember a new motor is the heart of your boat and when it runs like a dream (new ones always do), it will bring on a smile every time out. Add a smoother ride to that and that rougher riding Carolina skiff will look like what it is, a lesser boat.

or find a good, used 25hp and you'll have a lower price comparison and still the better ride.

Hard for me to believe the Carolina skiff would ride that much worse than a Whaler or a tri hull.Smooth ride isn't the strong point of any of them.
