i recently took ownership of an 18ft trihull with a 1975 merc 1500 outboard engine it ran last fall this spring it wouldnt start so upon investigating it looks like no spark issue due to a shot wiring harness on engine i priced out a harness a cdi box and then looked at the price of dist cap and thought wow this shizzle is pricey if the motor checks out with compression is it worth the money to make it run or should i look to repower ??

Re: need advice

Shouldn't be to touch a decision, LOTS of guys would LOVE to have that 150.

Once up to snuff, there isn't much that compare to the old 'Tower of Power'.

One thing at a time, start with the wiring harness. You may remove the old harness and run a few jumpers to test the ignition to decide if the ignition box is working or not. If the distributor cap isn't broken or cracked, leave it alone.

DO NOT even try to remove the distributor rotor, it DOES NOT come off, the replacement rotor/shaft assy is NLA. So be very careful.

Clean the carbs, rebuild fuel pump. New water pump kit and that old motor will make you smile.
