I am thinking about adding a temp gage to my 84 omc 115hp motor. Can anyone give me advise on what I need to do other than aquiring the gauge. Does the head temp sensors in each side of block need to be replaced as well. Thanks for any insight anyone can offer. I always test my warning system, but I still worry about possible failure. It would put me at eez if I could monitor the engine temp. Finally approximately how much for the parts needed for the job......Thanks Walt.

The temp senders stay in place. The sender for the gauge goes under one of the bolts in the cover on the head. Temp gauges are OK but can be deceiving sometimes. Personally I'd opt for a water pressure gauge. A pressure gauge will indicate what's going to happen. A temp gauge tells you what's already happened.

O.K. your the man. What's the process and parts needed for adding a water pressure gauge. If that's best, that's the way I will go. Thanks.Walt.

Everything is in the kit. I prefer the OMC / BRP kit, they've always seemed to be the most accurate. Stick the gauge in the dash, a small tube runs to the motor, T in a fitting to the overboard line & plug her in. Done, no big deal. Not even a 6 pack job.

Sounds pretty easy. Where's is the best place to order it from. Does Iboats carry that kit, or should I go directly to the Johnson/BRP site. Thanks.

Disregard my last message. I found the kit on Johnson/evinrude shopping site for about 50.00 bucks. Thanks again. Walt.

I am doing the same thing on my 1978 85
Got's lots of good advice on the forum the last couple of days.
I am installing both temp and pressure gauge.
Might be overkill, but what the heck, it's all good.
Got the water pressure gauge # 175114 from:
http://www.evinrude-parts.com:80/
It comes with 20' of tubing
Got a Teleflex Marine temp gauge from West Marine
#211401 Comes with gauge, sender and Z-bar mount.
Gauge is just Hot to Cold, but like Ezeke said, after you know where the
gauge reads when your engine is running right, a quick glance at the pointer can tell you if something is is out of the norm. Going to put on on each head.
My little center console is going to look like a 747 instrument panel.

A temp gauge on each head is a good idea. After all it's possible for one side to overheat. Good thinking.

Yeah, I am a little suspect of the port side head. It seems warmer to the touch than the starboard side, but not bad. Seems to be the last to cool down after the thermostats open, too. With two gauges I can get an idea of what's happening. Thought about putting a switch in to toggle both temps through one gauge, but I think I'll like this way. I did run water through the powerhead when I had the thermo
housing off, and everything seemed fine.

Yep, a temp gauge on each head, a water pressure gauge, the built in hot horn and an EGT gauge - now ya got it all covered. And folks wonder what the 3rd man does in an offshore race boat........gotta be a very cool looking dash! And that's just the gauges to cover heat!

Hmmmn? An EGT gauge? What is that. I think I have just enough room for one more gauge.

Exhaust gas temp.....something we use on race motors. Looks cool but kinda useless unless you have other data & info to go with it.
