I like to fix up old fiberglass boats, and up to now all my projects have been less than 16 feet. I just bought a Sportcraft Caprice 19 foot deep cuddy, a big heavy boat. Hull max is 150hp, but everyone I have seen on the net has a 115 OMC installed, found one with a 115 Chrysler. I need to keep this thing to a strict budget, but here are my immediate options:

1) Close by found a 'good running' Chrysler 115 for about $200.

2) On ebay found several V4 OMC 115/130 for about double that, also 'good running'

3) Sometimes find 80s Force 125s in the same price range.

I assume any of these 'good running' engines will require seals, impeller, and carb cleaning. perhaps rebuild of carbs.

Suggestions? I am an OMC fan, and that is what this hull had before so the holes would line up nice....

Any years to avoid? Currently the most promising OMC is a 74 115 that looks super clean.....

Thanks

I would avoid the '62 to '72 OMCs. There is a '69 115 on ebay right now for a "good price." Hope you weren't looking at it. Personally, I would avoid ALL Chrysler/Force outboards, but that just comes down to me being an OMC guy myself. Some worship them though.
