I gave my brother an old Elgin 2hp outobard Model Number 571-58232 (Ser #232--2347). Only problem is at some point the spark plug was broken so he has no idea what type of plug to replace it with.

Gap, Oil/fuel ratio would also be helpful.

Thanks, glad to be here.

Spark plug will be a J12J Champion gapped .050 point gap .020, mix is 1/2pint oil to the gal of gas. Are you sure of the model#? I could not find the one you gave.

Thanks Alcan. I'm pretty sure it's the right model number but I'll double check with my brother.

Thebes - that number checks out as a '58 West Bend built Sears Elgin 2hp.

Thanks Paul. but I am a little confused because my brother confirmed the model number but says it's a 1947. Oh well, as long as the spark plug doesn't burn a hole in the piston he should be ok. Just kidding. Oh, and Alcan, he was very greatful for the info. He has more boating toys then me so I suspect he'll be stopping by here from time to time.
