Need feedback!!!

I am buying a 1990 Evinrude Xp 150 to put on my 22' Hurricane deck boat.. I need to know all the oddities about these motors if there are any..The pros and cons I guess is what I'm looking for..Is it a reliable tough engine? Is it troublesome.. Should i keep mixing my oil and gas in the gas tank or trust the vro?? Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Tough old motor, likes to coke pistons & rings if not decarboned.Thirsty creature also. I would try to find a 150 Intruder/Faststrike. It is lighter,more torque and less thirsty... JMO

if the vro has been disabled leave it that way. or you need to upgrade to the new OMS pump. the motor is reliable. i suggest doing a decarb with seafoam, and then adding seafoam to your fuel/oil mix to keep the motor clean. i don't see the difference in performance, to cost to go to a faststrike/intruder.
