It is a 6 hsp. Mercury comet lightning. Has thunderbolt ignition. Block is stamped 1219 8. Serial number on lower unit is 5342549. Need to tune up but don't know year. Thank you.
Re ck your numbers, first merc never built a 6 HP at the factory with thunderbolt ign till the mid 80s, but did in the 70s supply a kit with a restricter plate that went behind the carb and new decals so you could convert your 7.5 to 6HP for use on lakes with HP restrictions and in most cases only the decals were used that serial falls into the 7.5 range and would be a 1979 - 7.5HP
