My boat has a speedometer but no wires are hooked up to it. I want to replace it but I don't know what all i need for it to work properly. I've found a gauge I like but don't know if it comes with all the hardware I will need.

IT should work from water pressure ,There would be a fitting on the transome in the water with a black rubber hose running to the guage

tommays

The only wiring on the speedo will be for the backlight. You will need the gauge, enough tubing to go from the gauge to the back of the boat and one of these water pickups mounted to the stern of the boat:

The speedometer pickup if called a "pitot" or simply "speedometer pickup".

On some motors Pickup is mounted in the engine. It has a small hole in the front of the lower unit. Most boat use the PITOT pickup. Also make sure it is like in the picture not kicked up in the air.
