Need full dressed power for SX Volvo outdrive

I committed to buy a 2000 Chaparral 240 Signature. It has a Volvo Penta SX outdrive. Y pipe is present, complete engine was pulled and got seperated from boat. Came with 5.7GS Vortec. I need a used powerplant with all accessories to bolt on to existing outdrive. What can I or can't I use. Kids want to tube, I just want to be out on the water. I have a 4.3 Mercruiser 1988 that needs to be freshened up with Alpha outdrive, but don't think I want to swap that much original components. Go easy on me, my wife has already pointed out all my faults.

I've been a Volvo tech for a lot of years now, long before the SX drive came into existance, and I have never heard of an SXJ outdrive.
If you still have the old engine, what is the serial number on it. It's a 10 digit number starting with 4012....... I think.

The engine is long gone. All that remains with the boat is the Y pipe, transom assembly, starter, and batteries. I have serial number of boat.

Well, there should be a serial number on the transom shield also. Go have a look.

How far back can I go age wise. I'm not finding anything in my price range.
