Need hellp with shift shaft / crank/spool assembly

I have everything assemblied in lower drive. alpha1
im conserned about I can turn the shift rod by hand and the locking coller will lock in forward and reverse. it is real easy to slide. im conserned if I could have assemblied in and not connected it on the shift spool right. The drawing shows a spring on the tail end.,and I thank before when I was disasembling it. it may have had resistence and wanted to spring back when trying to turn shift tube with my fingers. its real easy to turn and slide into gears now. I cant remember. how it was and if Im not in spool. thanks rob

after searching the web i found my answer
the earler drives had spring tention on the shift spool that is on the prop shaft. the later alpha`1 does not.
