Model #85ESL70d
Serial# J3333568
Ok im new to boating and just bought a 1980 Tidecraft bassboat with an 1975 Jounson 85 hp motor. I have a 5 gallon gas can and from what ive read you mix the mixture 50:1. How much oil do i need to put in it for 5 gallon. The old fuel we dumped out looked more like oil. The oil bottles we get come in 1 pint bottles(16 oz). Does this mean i need 64 ounces of oil per gallon of gas.

Also even tho fuel mixture isnt right will it still start, we got motor started 2 times but couldnt keep it running??? How many times should you have to prime the motor. We put 1 pint of oil to 3.5 gallon but failed to keep motor running and eventually killing battery.

Hi Bulljohn,
the correct mix for 50/1 would be for 6gal (22.7 ltrs) use 1 pint (.47 ltre) oil.
The engine dying you describe could well be due to over oiling and fouling of the plugs. Drain your tank, squeeze thru al the fuel in the fuel line. Pull the plugs, clean and set to 40 thou. Try again and let us know how you get on...
Ross
PS - welcome to the board.
