What is the proper fluid to use in a Prestolite trim/ tilt system for a 1977 115 hp Johnson. Also what is the thin copper wires inside the cylinders for? I had to remove the sending unit on the port side and noticed a wad of thin copper wire in there and don't know what it's for, do these do anything for the sending unit? trim/tilt guage? Any help would be greatly apprepreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can use ATF Dextron II in it. The copper wires are for the T/T sending unit for the gauge.

Thanks boobie. i guess my gauge won't work now since the wires were broke and all tangled up. On this type of t&t system is one of the cylinders for tilt and the other trim or do they both work together as one? also do you know of any good parts diagrams/ repair manuals for this type of system?

If I remember right they both work for trim but then only one takes over for tilt. You can find good parts break downs on shop.evinrude.com.
