Need HELP.1990 rude 225 Wont Rev Up

Hello, I Am A New MEMBER, I GOT THIS MOTOR CHEEP BECAUSE IT NEEDS WORK, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW HOW MUCH? IT STARTS AND RUNS FINE TILL ABOUT 3000 RPM AND THEN IT BUCKS, SPITS AND SHAKES AND WONT GO ANY HIGER. IT HAS HIGH HOURS ON IT AND THE COMPRESHION IS 84-87 IN 5 CYLS, AND 73 IN 1.MY QUESTION IS, COULD THE READINGS OF COMP, MAKE THIS MOTOR RUN THIS BAD. OR COULD IT BEFULE OR SPARK? I HAVE PUT IN NEW PLUGS AND CHECHED TO MAKE SHURE THAT ALL COILS ARE FIREING,AND THAT LOOKS OK. I HAVE RUN MURCURY MOTOR TUNE THROUGH IT AND I AM NOW STUMPED FOR HOW TO CHECK ANYTHING H

If you remove the cylinder head on the low cylinder, you can tell how bad the cylinders walls are of the 3 cylinders. After you verify the condition of these 3 which probley need boring, check the other 3.

Thanks Clanton, I will do that as a last resort. Right now i have the boat in the water and I guess what I am looking to find out is can a 12lb differance in compreshion make the motor buck, spit, stop reving in the 3000 rpm range or is this problem combined with something else. Such as a power pack, or gumed up carbs. I guess I am looking to see if there is anything else I can check while it is in the water??? Rather than have it rebuilt and have the same problem.

This is boatman1959, I had the RUDE 225 THAT WOULD NOT REV, Well I found out that it wasent the carbs or the lower compreshion. I bought the book on it and found that when they reriged the motor they had crossed 2 wires from the s.l.o.w. mode for overheating. THANKS FOR THE TIPS. I am on the water again.
