need help changing waterpump

i have 1976 evinrude 85 hp i took the bolt out of the lower unit and it drops about a inch what am i not doing. any help you could offer would be great

Take the bell crank bolt out and it seperates the shift linkage from shift rod. Then the shift rod slides right out with the lower unit.

be careful not to lose small bushing in the end of shift rod connecter this is easy to do and you need the little rascal

If he has a 1976 85 and already has the lower unit undone this should get him thru it.<br />That is an actual picture of a 1976 85 h/p rude.<br />OEM manuels are great aren't they.<br /><br />BTW welcome aboard
