need help!!!!! engine smoking!!!!!!!

I have a 94 johnson 88 spl. The engine all of a sudden is smoking. Smoking badly. The engine will start but when started will only reach about 3000rpms. The engine will stall if given less throtle. I just replaced the ignition and the kill switch. <br />History: Two days before smoking occured replaced the kill switch. Engine started fine no smoking. Started engine hooked up to flush. Started engine several times no problems. Good idle and good water flow. <br />Today tried to start in water would not start at first. After playing with throtle would start but real smokey. Tried to let idle at about 1200rpm but would not.(wanted to stall). Would idle at 3000rpm but extreamly smokey. Never done this before, last time out ran best it has run. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

Choke could be sticking on.

Bear: I don't think I have a vro on my motor. I premix 50:1. I did switch oils though from johnson's new oil to quicksilver. On boats I have had in the past I used quicksilver with no problems.<br /><br />Steelespike: I will check the choke tonight. The ignition switch was sticking. I just replaced the ignition switch about 4 weeks ago.

Any other suggestions as to the cause of the smoking that I could check???? Anyone else having same problem?

Sounds like choke "ON". Try disconnecting choke lead temporarily.
