Gentlemen,

As many of you know I have been restoring a 1960 Sea King boat. Well, I have just stumbled upon a great deal ($350) on a running 1960 Sea King 60HP motor (The exact size and year motor originally offered on my boat when it was sold.). The problem is that it has to be shipped to me from Michigan and I am in California. The person I am buying from has no experience in shipping and after several emails requesting the dimensions (L X W X H) and weight of the motor the seller does not know and cannot provide the correct info for me to give to the shipping company (DHL) to get the motor shipped.

What do I do ? Does anyone know the weight and overall dimensions of a 1960 Sea King, 60 hp, Model CG8850A? I am desperate to get this deal done and the motor on the way before the seller gets discouraged ?

HELP !!!

The weight will be 228 pounds, give or take a pound or two. Can't help with the dimensions. Go to a local marina and measure an old V4.

You might want to check with an outfit called Forward Air. If there is an air terminal near the seller in Michigan and one near you, all he has to do is strap it down to a pallet then deliver it to the terminal, then it comes to your terminal for pickup. Have heard good things about them, but no direct experience with them...just something to consider.

Thanks TM,

I already talked to Fedex ltl freight shipping. They want $409. That's more than I paid for the whole motor, controls and everything, but I will check out Forward Air and see what they want before I settle on a shipper.

I have to pay someone, This is the matching motor to my boat. It is the same year and exactly what would have been purchased as the high end motor for this make and year. The old boat will never be completely original, but this will be pretty darn close. I guess I could make it original but I like all of the technology, toys and gadgets.

I can't wait to post the before and afters to see what everyone thinks...

Thanks again everyone....

Hey TM,

Just for followup, Forward Air is a little cheaper, But they are over an hour away from Columbus, MI where the motor is coming for. With the price of gas being what it is...Well, you get the point...Good Call though. I will keep them in mind in the future..

Thank You,
