Hello all,

It's been awhile since my last post, I hope all are enjoying the boating season as we enter the dog days.

As for myself, I had an unfortunate mishap a couple of weeks ago while on Grand Lake (Grove, OK). While cruising about 40 mph I struck a submerged piece of drift wood and dropped the out-drive on my L-Drive. After impact, I inspected the out-drive and found it to be attached only by the tilt/trim hydrolic houses (Very Bad News).

The next day, with my out-drive in the back of my truck, I was able to get a closer look at the damages. Among non-major items, it looks like the out-drive sheared at the steering yoke (major part right above the U-Joint). Additionally, the 5 bolts that connect the yoke to the powerhaed and (what appears to be) the upper drive shaft were also sheared. I have inspected the crankshaft (from underneath the boat) with a marine mechanic and we agree that the crankshaft was not damaged.

Now to my question. My powerhaed is in great shape, is it worth replacing the out-drive (if possible). If so, any advise as to where to look will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it comes down to trying to find a replacement, or stripping the boat and junking it.

Maybe you can find another working unit on a junked boat?

I don't know of any place that would be selling the other than ebay. From what I've seen, those parts are really getting expensive.
