I have a mid 60's Evinrude V-4 with electric shift that I need help with to connect the voltage regulator. Can't find the model # on any welch plug and the powerhead was swapped out by the previous owner. He told me it was a '65 or '66 60HP but I can't confirm this. Gearcase came off yet another engine so it may very well be a 60HP with elec. shift. Charging system seems to be changed as well. According to my manual it has the 20 amp system(used up through 1966). It was missing the rectifier and regulator so I picked them up used. they're supposed to be for a 1966 electric shift. They are the externally mounted parts (no junction box) with the transistorized regulator. The stator field wires are: one red, the other blue. The regulator wires are: one red, the other red/black. If you were to match the regulator and field connector's together the red stator wire would connect with the red/black regulator wire. I seem to be missing part of the wiring that connects the regulator into the circuit but according to the schematic on page 370 of my Clymer's Evin./John. 1956-1972 manual (1966 80HP) the blue stator wire goes to ground, the red stator wire goes to the red/black regulator wire and the red regulator wire goes to switched battery positive. (The color codes don't quite match the schematic.) Is this correct? I have pictures if necessary. Thanks for any help. Even if you just have an original manual with a schematic that would be some help.

Wish I could help but I don't have a manual that old. This reply will bump up to the top though.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty
