Need help hooking up remote start switch and timing light.

G'day all,ready to time engine at cranking speed.Can someone tell me correct way took hook both remote start and timing light so I don't damage anything....including myself.
Also do I need to have ignition key turned to ON position.88 V6 Merc.Thanks for any help.

Timing light goesonto top spark plug wire. Remote start switch goes on small yellow or yellow/red wire on starter solenoid and red thick wire. Key must be on to get spark.

I recomend a mercury service manual. Setting timing is not real straight forward, if you haven't done it on a Merc.

Timing light also has blk and red cable.Could I connect red cable to positive on starter solenoid also....meaning 2 remote devices hooked to same point?....and black to any ground on motor?

Yep, that will work. Be sure to remove and ground all plugs before operating the remote start switch. You don't want the motor firing up unexpectedly. One other thing, timing light connects to #1 plug wire. Not sure on which bank the #1 plug is on the V6.
