Need help identifying a 85hp Johnson/Evinrude

So I picked up a boat and motor...neither have any serial numbers or model numbers. I've been cross referencing part numbers of the motor and studying pictures but still can't 100% tell myself what year. My guess is a 1972 Johnson...but I want to hear it from someone else. Need this before I start diving into repairs.

Yes, it is repainted...poorly. And whomever did it was also the one who removed the serial numbers and never put them back on. I'll get some more photos in the morning. Thanks!

Also there may be a plug somewhere on the powerhead with a model/serial number.

Post pictures of the actual power head.----Could be a 1969 ----to 1979 model.----Easy to pin point with pictures.

I'm looking for that plug right now and don't see one anywhere...if you couldn't already tell, I'm very new to this. Restoring what I believe to be a 1965 Jupiter V 16'.

Well----Your motor is a 1969 / 70 / 71 / 72 model.

It is earlier than 1979- I have one. The serial number would be on a freeze plug on top of the crankcase near the heads.

???----it is a 69 to 72 model.----No doubts about that at all.
