Hi, was hoping for a little help trying to figure out what motor my Chris Craft Lancer has. It is a Volvo Penta, with a GM block. I just can't figure out what GM motor it is. The cover on the back of the drive is missing, but I think it's a 270 drive. So, is there any way I can figure out if it is a 305, or 350?

Ford guy here but, in cars the 305 and the 350 had a different size balancer i believe.
Also ther should be some numbers cast in the rear of the block where the head and block meet on the left side (i think). these may be albe to tell you, if you can find someone to decipher them.

Re: Need help identifying Chris Craft Lancer Motor

Just started working on my Lancer monday (new project for me). It is a 1970 19ft with the volvo 270 outdrive, and a 307Q 200 hp engine, which I have read is basically a 283 chevy block with a longer stroke crankshaft. Yours might be the same. Mine has the flywheel oriented towards the front of the boat, and the distributor is mounted towards the front of the boat as well (flat topped distributor cap).
