I was told that this is a Hiawatha, but I haven't been able to verify that. On the block there is stamped 463 43755. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Need help identifying outboard

Other information:
Tillotson carb
flywheel made by Wico electronics
sparkplug wire says Rajah Thrust
on the intake adapter between carb and block are numbers 462-1873
there seems to be a small plaque fixed to the cylinder that looks like a 'w' above a 'V'.

My Intertec manual Hiawatha data starts at 1955 and I suspect your motor pre-dates that time. The '55 (and prior?) motors were supplied by the Gale division of OMC. Scott/Mc Culloch assumed the contract @ 1956 or '57.

Ii can't help wondering if the #s you found are casting #s rather than model or serial #s. If cast in place they are probably casting #s. If stamped they are probably model/serial #s. If it's a Gale/OMC built motor it SHOULD (but not always:() have a 'freeze-plug' with the actual model # stamped thereon if you are unable to find it elsewhere.

The transom clamp brackets look like Gale parts but the lower leg/lower unit look like something else. The space in the front of the top of the gastank looks like an early 50s Gale pullstart assembly would bolt right on. Strange! Keep us posted on what you discover.

it looks like an omc of some type. in the first picture I think I see the letters Jo on the fuel tank leading me to believe it is a 40s or50s Johnson

I believe you have a 1946 Firestone 133-6-463, 3.5hp, Made by Scott-Atwater. Here is the Scott-Atwater version

Correct. That is a Firestone/Scott-Atwater 3.5 hp, post war.

That's a possibility. It looks like somebody has painted it at some time. Might as well put Johnson decals on it while they were at it. If it is a 1946 as I suspect, it originally was silver, not green. Here is my 1947 with original paint and decals.

BTW, look at the side view, stern bracket. See the data plate with the model & serial number? That's what is needed for positive ID.

Re: Need help identifying outboard

There isn't a label plate on this motor. But there is a Johnson TN-26 behind the Firestone, thus the "Jo".
