The middle section the motor turns on, has been replaced and there are no identifying numbers that I could find. I have searched for pics of the 35 hp evinrude but have been unable to find any that match this color scheme. Any help would be appreciated.IMG-20120126-00050.jpgIMG-20120126-00048.jpg

my guess is 1983. but on the top of the head is usually a silver dollar sized, silver plug with some numbers on it. at least there is on most of the v-4s and v-6s.

I looked on top and did not see any plug at all. I know it has 2 spark plugs. the guy selling it thinks it is a 1993 model. But when I looked at some 25hp from 1993 they are a grey color not even close to this color.

Ok went and looked at this thing again. There is a freeze plug that has 2 sets of numbers.

The numbers on top are: 125RCSA
The numbers on the bottom are : 5254727

There is also numbers on the block. They are located on the right hand side of the motor if your standing int he boat looking back at the motor.

Numbers are: 325744-2

Hope this helps. Its the only numbers that we can find.

Correct......"CS" corresponds with an '80 model.....you might have a replacement powerhead.....the rest of the motor seems to be from '78.......http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2609670230101354590ozLxGB

Not '80......http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2389605880101354590XIifHR

I suspect you have the bones of '78 35hp (thru hub exhaust lower unit, 25's of that era didnt have those) fitted with a 25hp powerhead from '80, may even have more ponies in the stable than you think.;)

so how much are you expected to pay for this motor? my opinion is if it runs out really good it would be worth $500-700 bucks. and extra $100 if he will throw in the controls.

Well we finally got the bottom of things :D

He bought the boat motor and trailer from his brother in law. Who built the motor from parts out of a bunch of different motors. It has at least 6-7 different years all throughout this motor. I think it would be a NIGHTMARE if you had to replace anything on this motor. ALL of the major components are from various size motors.

He has a 1993 Carolina skiff, with a homemade trailer(got to say the trailer is AWESOME), he built the trailer specifically for the boat. And of course the motor. It also included depth finder, trolling motor and built in aluminum livewell all for $2k even.

I already own a Carolina skiff and was looking to replace my motor. However I wanted to go newer than what his motor is, and that is a 1978,79,80,84,85,86 and some 90's parts:D

Think I will pass.

Yea, that lower unit is from a '79 or older. Per F_R, that style of gearcase with the water intake on front tends to catch weeds and overheat. I respect his opinion. They corrected that problem on the later 80's 35 hp, and that's a pretty descent motor.

I would pass on that mixed bag of parts as well.

hey I am in Savannah GA too...actually near Ellabell. I do not have a 35 at this time, but I have seen plenty on craigslist and tell n sell in the past. I saw this one in jacksonville..not sure if it will work for you. I would only pay 800-1K for it if it is in good shape and will work for you. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/boa/2744780586.html if you are patient you will find one around here.

Re: Need help Identifying the year and model on this motor

Thanks Sparkieboat!

If you run across anything in the next 30 days please give me call at 912-713-1715. I am looking for 40-50hp. prefer short shaft but I have a manual jackplate so can use long shaft. I have long shaft now but was going to try to go shorter. I am looking for like 95 or newer. It has to have tilt and trim *LOL*

I have looked at about 20 motors so far all the way down to Waycross and back but have NOT found one to be suitable. When you talk to these people on the phone they make the motor sound like gold until you get there and it won't even start for you :D
